PostSubject: Fierce as all of Lisorgard   Fierce as all of Lisorgard I_icon_minitimeMon Jul 09, 2012 9:44 am

A thin black arrow fell through the sky, bringing with it an Ashenquill bird. The young warrior who had shot it walked over to pick it up in long, smooth strides. She had long, wavy black hair and piercing grey eyes. She was tall and slim and had many scars. What was the most strange, however, is the fact that she wears the grey and green garb of the Lisorgard Clan, an Elf clan that is known for it's hatred of humans...and yet...she is human. She bent over to pick her up her prey, but froze midway through the movement. Someone was watching her. Someone or something. She had heard about the giant wolves that roamed the world, but there had never been one in the Delta....She pulled the arrow out of the bird as slowly and inconspicuously as she could, and then, with a flurry of movement, she whipped out her bow and strung the arrow, spinning as she did so to face behind her. She would not hesitate to release her bowstring, be it man or beast...She was ready to kill for the protection of her clan.

Justinian Ravenclaw froze. He watched the other human careful as he rested his hand on the hilt of Thorn, his katana. He was weary of this human, for she seemed rather skilled with her bow. He decided that a confrontation now would be a bad idea. He mind-spoke to his companion, Erebrus, to hide some distance away, so that the giant raven wouldn't get shot accidentally.

That done, the young warrior raised his empty hands in a sign of non-aggression and called out "Hail Archer! Don't shoot! I mean no harm!"

He stepped forward out of the underbrush and into the young lady's line of fire. He stood and waited to see what she would do.

Tempest's eyes narrowed as she surveyed the intruder. She kept her bowstring tight. He was about her height, and looked as muscular as she was, if not more. Her best chance would be a fatal shot with the bow. "Caw! Caw!" her crow, Piper, was in the sky above her, preparing to land. Curses! Couldn't he have taken longer to forage?! Then Piper saw the intruder. "CAW! CAW!" Oh no! He's going to attack! The strange man looked up only to see a diving bird flying at his face. "Piper!" The crow had landed, and was scratching and biting the intruders ears. Forgetting all caution, Tempest dropped her bow and walked up to him to grab the fierce bird. "Piper! You're going to get us both killed one day, what with your random and uncalled for acts of violence! Now shoo!" and with that she thrust him into the air, walked over to her bow, knocked an arrow and resumed aiming at the intruders head. "Back to business. Why are you on Lisorgard's land?" She asked calmly. The man looked bewildered. Bewildered with bleeding ears...

OCC: Cro...Justinian is exactly one inch shorter than Tempest...just saying...

Justinian held his tongue, resisting the temptation to let loose a stream of curses, but his sense of honor, and the fact he was in the presence of a lady, demanded that he resist. The warrior felt this ears and the blood that dripped from them.

He chuckled, "Nice to meet you too..." And then, Erebrus, his giant raven dropped from the sky to his shoulder. The raven, noticing the blood on his master's ears, screeched and clacked his beak angrily at the human girl and her crow.

"It's alright Erebrus, the lady didn't mean to hurt me...it's okay..." Justinian reached around and pulled a small medicine pouch from his gear pack and winced as he began applying a slave to his wounds.

Now the lady was pointing a notched arrow at his head...Great...that'll make my face look better... He thought to Erebrus.

"Listen, good Lady; my name is Justinian Ravenclaw, and I am in the service of a Fire Legacy named Erin Wolf...He sent me on a mission to my home realm of Sylvia, and, " The young warrior finished bandaging his ear and met the other's grey eyes...He hadn't seen eyes like those before...they were like Shadow's eyes; the grey of a fierce winter storm...but there was more to them than that, there was...

Justinian caught himself and finished his response, "And, now I am going to try to get to back to him...he told me to meet him somewhere along the shores in Lapidem, but I got a wee bit lost out here. Erebrus here," the young warrior gestured to the abnormally huge raven that rested on his shoulder," was going to go get a "birds' eye view" to help reorient us towards Lapidem..." Justinian paused and then looked at the girl curiously, awaiting her response.

Tempest nearly fainted at the sight of the giant raven. He has a corvid too? She knew how hard it was to tame a corvid. In fact, it was next to impossiible. Rarely have corvids chosen to devote themselves to a human, she was one of the few who had gained a crow's respect.....And here was this 'Justinian Ravenclaw' with not only a corvid on his shoulder, but a giant corvid to obey him. She restrained herself from letting her mouth hang open. Deal with the problem at hand! she colded herself inwardly. She must decide how to proceed. If what he said was true, then it would be a mistake to kill him. If what he said was false, then the world was better off without him. She frowned. She had better stick to the safe side. But there was only one safe side. "Come, Piper!" She shouted to a nearby tree where the crow had been waiting. Piper flew over immediatly, clicking his beak. She lowered her arrow six inches or so and began to speak quickly and quietly to the bird on her left shoulder. "Go to the sentry on duty and tell him that I will be back late due to a tresspasser. There is only one, I need no warriors, and I should be back around moonrise. Now go!" she added, extending her left arm as she said it. She watched him fly away, unafraid of the trespasser attacking her. She slowly turned back to him and smiled, aware that he would not know if she had sent for more Elven warriors to kill him or capture him. She hoped it would scare him. A scared enemy is halfway dead... She thought to herself happily. "Now for you. Get out. Get out now. Never return. I will have your face carved in stone so that every Lisorgardian will recognize your face. If you ever dare return, you will die." She paused to let that wash over him.
"You will leave now, and I will escort you."

OOC: Sorry about the height thing, I read wrong. I fixed it, though, so now it just says that he is about the same height. And by the way, if you have any suggestions about writing, please feel free. I am always open to suggestions.

Justinian smiled at her shock. Never put all your cards on the table at once...leave the opponent guessing.

"You shall not hear from me again. I simply need to find Erin Wolf, and I am sure he would thank you for assisting Erebrus and myself in reaching our destination." He bowed slightly. "You have my word I shall not trespass again. I apologize, as I was lost and did not realize I was on anyone's land."

He grinned inwardly as she sent her crow off. He guessed that she may have sent for more warriors perhaps. Or it could just be a ploy to catch him off guard. He didn't mind. The girl was being cautious and he couldn't fault anyone for that. Besides, he was the apprentice of Erin Wolf, and if he couldn't protect himself from a few Elvin warriors, then he'd never have been allowed to go on missions on his own. He was a normal human, no special powers, other than his enchanted sword, Thorn, which was only has as powerful as Deathblade, but, he was still much more than a match for most mortal warriors...Erin Wolf had made sure of that.

The warrior shrugged to himself. Let her do as she wished and he would deal with whatever happened as it happened.

"If I ever dare return, I shall die? Hmm, friendly folk, aren't you? Very well. Like I said. Just help me get to the shores of Lapidem and you wont have to deal with me again, alright?"

OOC: Np about the height, i was just making sure you were aware...and what do you mean "suggestions about writing"? What kind of suggestions?

"Do not pretend that I am helping you. Do not pretend that you are in control of the situation. I am not helping you, I am sparing you life, and I will do that only once. You are lucky that I am doing it now. Also, I do not appreciate the sarcasm. We are friendly to those who request permission to enter our land first, something that you clearly neglected to do." She growled her blunt words with a new found ferocity. "Now, Walk!" Tempest pointed off to her right, right into a thornbush.

OOC: I mean something like if you notice that I'm not describing something deeply enough...or too much.... or it's too short or too long....Speaking of which, Sorry this one is so short. I couldn't make it any longer without making you character do something. Sorry.....

Justinian looked at her seriously. "Control? No one ever has "control" of the situation...control is an illusion. There is only ever adaptation...My master taught me that..." He looked at the bush and sighed.

"Very well." He drew his katana, which, ironically, was named Thorn. He flourished it once and then hacked away space enough for him to step through. If she were testing him, trying to intimidate him, it was not going to work. At least, he'd do his best to not let it work.

He strode forward, each of his powerful steps taking him far, and his bird, Erebrus flew overhead.

"Well, as long as we you are 'sparing my life' and 'not helping' me, why dont you tell me your name, seeing as you already have mine?" He smiled slightly. Goddess this Elf is a bit of a rock when it came to friendliness... he thought to himself.

"Your people pride themselves on defending your land, it seems, but what will you do when The Shadow strolls over and decides to 'not help' you, and, unlike you are doing with me, 'not spare' your lives? Not even Elves as fierce as thee could hold him off on your own, I think."

OOC: NP, i'll let you know if i have any suggestions...and np about the shortness of that post...it's okay...

How dare he insult my clan! Tempest restrained a long stream of curses. And to kill such a nice thornbush... Tempest calmed herself as she searched for the words that would tell him what she thought without sounding stupid. "You would do well not to lecture me, apprentice, as you yourself have only seen the destructive path, whereas all that you had to do was to look a little further and think, and a better solution would have come." The pretty warrior girl strode off to the left of the broken thornbush. She moved a large branch that was so big and old that it was hanging down to the ground. It revealed a worn, thin path. "You clearly know nothing of my clan. We are not stupid, and we do not present ourselves so fiercely without reason. We are not just thickheaded warriors, and we despise those who think so." Tempest began to walk down the path, aware of the setting sun. She stopped and turned around suddenly. She stared into his beautiful brown eyes and noticed that they were flecked with gold...It can't hurt..."I am Tempest Fleet-Foot."

Justinian was starting to tire of her high and mighty tone. She apparently didn't realize that being an apprentice to Erin Wolf meant that, by other creatures' standards, he already WAS a master of the blade...just not as mastered as, well, his master...

"No...not stupid...but, not going to survive the Shadow by trying to hide either...against him, there are only three options...Fight him...Join him...or die..." Justinian looked at the Elf. "Tempest? A violent windstorm... hmm...for some reason that names seems most apt and suits you well." He stepped onto the small path behind her.

Tempest nearly winced. Too close. Too close to the truth. "The name was given to me for more than one reason, the biggest of which I don't believe you would like to know. And don't talk to me as if my clan is ignorant of the worlds happenings! I am forbidden to talk of such things, but know this: When the Shadow comes, we will be ready."
She turned and walked down the path with a scowl on her face, not bothering to make sure he was following.

Justinian chuckled, she said they'd be ready...NO one could be ready for the Shadow...no one could predict that monster... He followed her without another word. She may have been pretty, but she also seemed like she felt pretty safe, despite the Shadow mucking everything up around her quiet little homeland...

He heard Erebrus, the giant raven, coming for a landing and he paused as the raven lighted down on his shoulder. "Hey there fella, had a good flight?" The raven bobbed his head and cawed. Justinian grinned and chuckled as the raven began tugging the boy's hair like it was a worm. "HEY! Stop that!" he cried, but he made no move to stop the bird.

Tempest heard a commotion behind her. She glanced quickly over her shoulder without stopping, only to see the man's giant raven playing with his soft hair. "Hey! Would you guys mind saving playtime for later? We're not the only thing in this forest, you know."

Tempest felt a bit guilty for ruining friendly time between the two friends; she of all people should understand. But now was not the time for playing, and he had been overly obnoxious on someone else's land. Tempest knew she had not exactly been polite, but he was trespassing on her land, so she believed that she had the right.

Justinian grumbles a bit and begins to follow after her. The raven, however, had not ceased to pull out Justinian's hair...one by one. "OW! Quit that you bird-brained bird... At this rate, I'll be bald before we round the next bend...then what will Lady Brianna back home think of me??" He laughed as he followed Tempest through the woods. The Elf had a point, there were other things in the woods too, but he didnt mind so much. He was having fun, and he could walk and talk. So he did. He was conversing with the giant raven behind Tempest and did so with a slightly goofy grin.

The noises didn't stop. Tempest tolerated the mans gentle talking with his raven for a few minutes, and was about to reprimand him again when her own corvid flew down from the skies and landed softly on her shoulder. The Crow nuzzled her a little bit and scratched her twice on the should to let her know he had done what she had asked. She patted him on the back and stared at him fondly for a moment before reaching into a small pouch hanging on her hip. She pulled out two crackers, and rewarded the crow fondly. As he gobbled the crackers up, she grinned and said ever so softly "What a good boy you are. What would I do without you? Thank you, Piper." Then sh smoothly turned back to the pat and started walking again, careful not to unbalance the crow on her shoulder.

The warrior noticed the crow had returned to Tempest's shoulder and that she had given it some crackers.

"Nice bird you have there...it takes a lot of skill and time to get a good relation ship with corvids... I'm impressed." He smiled and then cried out as Erebrus pecked his head asking the boy if he could have crackers.

"No, you greedy bird, I don't HAVE crackers for you...you've never asked for them before so why would i have them for you now?"

Erebrus looked at Tempest and Piper, cawed, and then turned back to Justinian and cocked his head, as if to say, SHE gives HIM crackers...

The warrior argued about the crackers with his bird all the while, the scene was quite a comical spectacle to any observers.

She kept walking for several minutes, just listening to the mans raven squawking. She could tell that he wanted some crackers. Poor fellow. He must hunt for himself all of the time. How on earth did this 'Justinian Ravenclaw' make friend with a corvid if he didn't bring any snacks? She leaned her head slightly and whispered to her crow: "How about a cracker for the raven, eh, Piper?" Piper hesitated a moment, and then scratched her shoulder twice in agreement. She slowly and smoothly stopped and reached for the little bearskin pouch on her hip. She carefully pulled out four crackers and held two in each hand. She lifted the crackers to the man and his raven and held them there, awaiting their response.

Justinian noticed her offer the crackers. "Well there you go, you overgrown feather faced fellow...crackers...now dont caw with your beak full... and be polite..and thank her afterwards..."

The raven gave the warrior a look that said, "whatever you say...i just want the crackers..." The huge raven lifted off and raced to Tempest and landed on her other arm, opposite of Piper and pulled a cracker from her fingers and ate it noisily. He leaned forward and then pulled the other cracker from her fingers and ate it just as quickly. That done he brushed the crumbs from his feathers and bumped his head against her cheek in affection and cawed in thanks. He lifted off her arm and land back on Justinian's arm and gave him a look of, "see, SHE'S nice to me..."

The warrior rolled his eyes playfully at the bird. "Thanks Tempest, for the crackers. I think Erebrus enjoyed them."

Ro'car cursed his lack of familiarity with the land. In the course of a week, he had managed to travel to the wrong mountain pass and nearly get his horse trapped in a swamp. Sure, the locals were glib enough to provide directions at every turn, but they always had to use names! How was he supposed to memorize the name every backwater town, river, and bog in this blasted realm?

His arm was still in pain, but it was easy enough to find a healer who could set his elbow and fashion a sling. All he could do was ride back to Sylvia, to his homeland, and look for a way to overcome Erin and Lyra.

At least the mouth of this river is flat. It's not an open plain, but at least the ground is harder than in a bog, Ro'car thought, relieved to temporarily be out of the mire that covered Paludem.

Ahead, he spied a strange pair. Both of them had dark-colored birds on their shoulders, one freakishly large even compared to a great eagle. He was too far away to see what they were doing, but he slowed his pace, and brought out his bow from a sleeve in his saddle. The light, springy wood of the short recurve glistened with a carefully-maintained polish, and Ro'car fumbled with stringing it. After all, stringing a bow while guiding your horse is complicated enough without having one less arm to do it. He pushed the horse onwards.

Tempest moved her left arm, still holding two crackers. "Take them, Justinian Ravenclaw. You must be hungry as well. It's not much, but it will keep you alive until morning."
She smiled a little bit to show her intentions were good, but she felt very awkward.
"Erebus is a very worthy bird. If only he--"
Tempest grabbed her bow, slung it off of her shoulder and notched an arrow in less than a second, and she was still holding the crackers.
Piper flew into a nearby tree. Tempest scanned the forest to the left of the path. Noises. Branches moving, leaves crackling, heavy footsteps. Something big was moving. And it was moving towards her.She backed away from her captured trespasser, realizing that if that big something was also a trespasser, then she would be outnumbered. She listened again. Horse! someone on horseback! Great. It was very unlikely to be on her side now; few Lisorgardians have horses, since the ground is too marshy for them in most places and in the rest the forest is too thick.
She briefly extended her left arm, which was still holding the crackers.
"Eat quickly and silently. Stay in my sight, don't move when you're finished eating."

Ro'car noticed that the trees he had been riding through came to an abrupt end just ahead. As quietly as possible, he dismounted from the tan stallion. He hitched the horse to a tree, making sure to grab the quiver of arrows from his saddle and sling it across his shoulder. Ro'car crept foreward, hidden by the undergrowth that grew thick near the edge of the field. He fumbled to grab and string an arrow while the hand in the sling held onto the bow, but once the arrow was nocked, he deftly grabbed the bow with his good hand and the arrow with his bad before the arrow could fall to the ground. Ro'car tested the bow, being able to draw it back fully, but only being able to shoot from his stomach. Aiming was going to be a tricky proposition.

Ro'car scanned the field ahead. The bushes obscured his view, but he could see two humanoid figures about one hundred yards away. One of them already had their bow drawn and aimed at him.

Great, another pair who appears to be violent and ready to kill me at any second.

Ro'car shouted, attempting to project his voice off to the distance to his right, "Hello, friends, who goes there?"

Justinian ate the crackers quickly and then slowly drew his sword. On his sword hand glistened a ring...that had the same howling wolf emblem as Erin Wolf did...but this one, rather than having ruby red eyes, it had citrine eyes...their orange glow mimicked the flickering of fire...

He was young, but his face grew hard and harsh. Great, he thought to himself, more "friendly" people...

Erebrus, feathers darker than death and blacker than the bottom of the sea, hid withing the shadows of the trees, ready to ambush the newcomer if he were a threat...

They stood, awaiting Tempest's reaction. She was leading them, and they would follow her orders, for now at least.

"Your Identification!" Tempest shouted, hoping the second stranger would listen to her. "Do not move before you are identified! You might want to listen," she added, sensing that he would probably move. "I'm pretty good with my weapons."
Tempest ricked a glance at Justinian. His sword was drawn. Tempest would have been disturbed by this, but she was too busy being disturbed by the new trespasser.
Could this day get any worse? Tempest thought sullenly.

Ro'car sighed. If I couldn't defeat those other two, my chances of defeating this pair with one arm are even slimmer.

To the strangers, Ro'car shouted, "I am but a lowly horseman, and a stranger to these lands. One cannot be too careful in lonely areas such as these. Perhaps you could offer some proof that you are not common bandits?"

Ro'car had figured that Tempest and Justinian were not bandits. Their strange attire and even stranger pets attested to this. Besides, what kind of bandit would wait in an open clearing to ambush travelers, when such thick woods were readily available? His true goal was more to size up the other two than anything else. If they proved peaceful and trusting, maybe they could even inform him on how to get back to Sylvia without crashing through every wood and forest in Paludem first.

"Pardon me if this offends you," Tempest shouted, "But I find that those who claim that they are lowly are often highest up."
Wait......Tempest's thoughts halted. He asked for my identification? He's not supposed to do that!
"I would prefer to learn your name first, as you are on Lisorgard's land. Identify yourself or die!"
Tempest put extreme stress on the word 'die' as she wanted to make it very clear that she meant it. Hopefully the new trespasser would understand.
