Lyra had just enough energy left in her to stagger to the body that had been left behind. His once black hair had been washed silver, and smocked slightly at the edges. His sword was buried in a tree a few feet away, and it looked as if it was still fixed. Right now, though, she wasn't focused on the sword, it was Dante that concerned her. He was usually pale, but he was white as bone and he was so still. Deathly still.

"Dante," Lyra moaned, dropping to her knees beside the vampire. Erin was forgotten. "Dante, please don't be dead. Wake up. Wake up!" She shook him gently, but he remained motionless. She buried her face in her hands and stifled a sob. No. She couldn't cry. Not now. He might still live. Where was the medallion? It was still around his neck, but the black metal was twisted and bent, and the red stone that had been set at its center no longer pulsed with light. It was just a medallion now... Nothing special or different about it. It was just twisted and burnt metal. Ignoring the heat of the medallion and the pain that lanced up her arm when she touche it, she lifted the chain from around his head and tucked it into a pocket. There was no way that she was going to let him touch it again.

That is when the cheers erupted. The town crept up and out of alleys. The young woman that there were-cat had been about to kill crept forward and knelt next to Lyra.
"He saved my Life," she said softly, there were tear tracks on her dirt streaked face.
"Sayna," a man walked up behind her. "Lets get you home." After the woman was led away, Dante's fangs began to shrink to normal sized human teeth. A shallow breath was drawn in and let out. The good news; He was alive. Then he opened his eyes. The color was back to normal, "Why do I feel barbecued? "

Lyra bit her lip, ignoring the people around her. Sure, they were important and she probably should pay heed to what some of them were saying, but she was far more interested in the friend lying before her. With bated breath, she watched as he fangs slowly shrank back into his head, and he took and unsteady breath. He was alive.

"Why do I feel barbecued? " he asked vaguely, opening his eyes and looking at her with a bewildered expression.

Lyra laughed with relief and got to her feet, then offered him an hand and helped him up. "I'm afraid that you've me to blame for that," she told him. "You went a little bit... erm... crazy for a few minutes and we had to resort to extreme measures to try to break you out of it." She remained vague on purpose, not wanting to go into detain unless she had to. "C'mon," she said, nudging him gently towards the inn. "It's about time you got some shut-eye."

She looked pleadingly at Erin, who stood a few meters away. A little help? she thought dismally, not really expecting him to read her expression but hoping nevertheless that he'd come over to help Dante so she could pass out.

Erin, from the window of the room watched it all unfold below. Then, when Lyra looked up at him, questioningly, he nodded once. He could tell, just from her face/eyes, she was on the verge of collapsing. He sighed and slung the bow and quiver onto his back, jammed a dagger into his belt, and hastily threw his boots on. "Hang on, hang on...I'm coming..." The warrior yanked open the door and walked out and down the stairs. He drew looks from the Inn's patrons, but he was not surprised. He looked awful at the moment...more so than usual...and he was rather grim looking...he was ALWAYS rather grim looking...so that wasn't exactly new either...maybe it was that this roughened, haggard looking man seemed to carry an air of destiny...or danger. He looked like he'd just walked through hell and back...surviving it all and coming back for more. Even in this state, his face seemed to say "Put your armor on...let's go a few rounds."

The people parted before the warrior like the sea, for none was exactly willing to test this man's mettle just then. He looked like he was somewhat busy.

The Legacy exited the in with a wary glance to ensure no enemies hid just beyond the door of the establishment, and, once satisfied that there were no enemies in wait, he strode purposefully towards Lyra and Dante. Some people looked at him in awe, others in fear, and some with disgust. They all had some idea of what he was, if not exactly who. He was a warrior whose life was one filled with blood shed and strife. His presence meant change and danger was afoot.

Erin, first, reached out and took Lyra by her arm and pulled her up gently, dusting her off with his other hand. "You took your time with that one, Elf." He was grinning, suggesting he was not at all serious, and more relieved at her having survived her ordeal than anything else. "Here, lean against that," He pointed to an adjacent wall, "while I take care of him.' Erin indicated Dante.

The warrior released Lyra and then stooped to lift the day-walker to his feet. "Dante, if you can understand me, i need you to try to stand...i could carry you, but i'd run the risk of collapsing from the strain and then that'd leave the Elf girl to carry us BOTH back...and wouldn't THAT be a sight?" Erin winked at Lyra indicating that not such thing would happen and she need not worry. Erin supported the vampire and waited to see if Dante could get his legs beneath him. "Come on, Day-Walker, you can do it. Upsee-daisy..."

Erin cast a questioning glance towards Lyra. You okay? the thought echoed in his head, though he was not expecting any sort of answer from her, he still felt like she could almost hear the words in his head...that was silly though... it wasn't like they could read one another's minds...

Dante was steady on his feet. He looked around at the damage his body had caused. Eyes traveling from the dead girl, to the werecat, landing last of all on Lyra. Then Dante knew what had happened, he kept his face blank. An expression he had perfected in his teens. He hadn't seen. .. he hadn't known. He started towards the in, back ramrod strait. He some how managed to get back inside the room. His memory replaying the look of fear on the peoples faces. There was a window in the room and a chair sat next to it. Sitting in it, he watch the horizon. Not uttering a word.

Lyra shook her head ever so slightly at Erin when she read his unspoken question on his face. She could hear Shadow's thoughts, but Erin's mind was a closed book to her. This she red in the way his brows knitted together, the corners of his lips turned down slightly, the tense way in which he stood when he looked at her. No, no she wasn't okay. She had slept for perhaps an hour in the past week an had maybe one decent meal in the same amount of time. She had pushed herself to the limit of endurance, and now that there was no reason to force her battered mind and body onward, she found herself without the strength to go on. Without her realizing it, she was shaking. Adrenaline had worn off, and her body was trying to find some energy that it could use to keep running. It found nothing.

So hard had she pushed herself without a thought to her own needs that Lyra was more dead than alive. If she didn't allow herself to rest and eat soon, she would likely die from the combination of overextending her powers and then weakness in general. Sickness would claim her and she would go quietly back to the earth from which she came.

Her shadowed eyes followed Dante as he walked back into the inn without Erin's aid. He looked numb, and she guessed that he would probably want to be left alone for a while. She would have voiced this, but when she opened her mouth no sound came out. She drew in a shuddering breath and took a step towards Erin and almost crumpled to the ground right then and there. In an attempt to catch herself, a slender hand shot up and tugged at the chain that held the amulet, but the amulet itself was underneath her armor and she could not get access to it. So heavy... It tugged her towards the ground... towards somewhere where she might find her peace...

"Water," she muttered, eyes cloudy and unfocused. "Is there... any... water?"

If Erin answered, she did not hear it, for she stumbled over her own feet as she tried to go to him. Her strength was gone, and she did not even try to stop her fall. Lyra was unconscious before she hit the ground.

ooc: Recap! So now that the medallion is destroyed - I think - we're all okay! YAY. {Lyra will wake up in a bit, she's only a bit worn out so no worries about her.} Though poor Erin will never figure out why his powers were malfunctioning.

From the window Dante saw Lyra fall. Consern washed over his face and, even though his body screamed in protest, he stood and made his way outside. He crouched down and picked her up. Her head lolled and came rest in the crook of his neck. Slowly, carefully, he made his way back to the room. Laying her on the cot, he tugged off her boots. Then pulled the quilt off the bed and covered Lyra in it. Then Dante started filling the wash basin with water. He slowly washed all the blood off off himself. By the time he was done, the water was dyed a rust color. After Draining it, he sat down in the chair again and looked out at life around him.

Erin knelt by the cot, his eyes filled with concern. From the moment she'd passed out, he'd not left her side. The warrior kept dabbing at her brow with moist washcloth and had tended to several of her wounds. A life as a ranger taught you that you'd have to take care of yourself, healthy or otherwise, and so he'd learned a thing or two about some basic healing and medicine, but it wasn't much. He washed her wounds and covered them, bound up her blistered feet, and made sure she stayed warm, when she began to shiver, and cool when she was taken by a fit of sweating, due to her feverish conditions.

"Come on Lyra...wake up...you are safe now..." He'd talk softly to her, nothing really worth hearing, her hand held in his, but he'd talk nonetheless. Perhaps just hearing another voice, despite it being the rough one of a wandering warrior, would comfort her, wherever her spirit had decided to go. "Wake up Lyra, cause we didn't escape slavers just to watch you die." Erin's fiery aura helped keep the room warm for them all. For hours he went on like this, both tending and talking to her until, he too fell asleep, but his hand never left hers, and he never left her side.

It was approaching night again and Erin dreamt not at all. He was too filled with worry for dreams.

Lyra moaned aloud in her fevered and tormented sleep. She heard a voice... or if not a voice then at least words. The speaker sounded familiar, and she felt that she out to recognize him. She was dimly aware of someone tending to her, but remained unsure as to who and what exactly was going on. All she felt was movement, muted and dull, like colors running together at sunset. In her fragmented suspension between reality and the unknown world of dreams, her eyes moved ceaselessly underneath their lids, as if straining to see something, anything through the darkness that enclosed her. As it was, try as she might, she could not drag herself back into consciousness. Eventually, the words slowed and ceased, leaving her to the agony of her mind. Alone at last, Lyra sank into the darkness of dreams.

Darkness. Black, black, impenetrable blackness as far as she could see. She could see though, couldn't she? Lyra wasn't conscious of really having a body or a sense of being, but she felt quite sure that she could see. The darkness did not life, but gradually she found that she could see. She didn't have time to fathom as to how or why, all she knew was that she did have a presence here after all. She became aware that she was standing on some hard, flat surface. It was still dark, but she could make out what appeared to be mist or vapor hanging in front of her. The air felt damp and heavy. She took a breath, inhaling air slowly through her nose and then out through her mouth. Whatever it was, it wasn't toxic. The mist tasted of water and nothing more, so she assumed that's what it was. In contrast to this, it was bitterly cold. Lyra knew that this was out of place, for if it was this cold the mist shouldn't be there at all... There wasn't enough moisture. And yet somehow there was, and the mist rose up from the ground to hang in the air. It brushed against her skin as it rose, for it was rising.

After what seemed like an hour, but it could hardly have been long, Lyra became aware that the mist no longer was moving. Instead, it hung in the air as the atmosphere grew heavier with the weight of the myriad droplets of water. Her breathing grew increasingly wet, with more water going in than air. It was then that she began to panic, for water was the enemy of all fire. Fear of drowning was one of her worst nightmares, but she had never had this variation of it before. Slowly, she was being suffocated by a thick curtain of water. The Legacy tried to run, but found that she was rooted to the spot. She opened her mouth but was unable to cry out for help. Her voice was gone. Darkness once more glazed her eyes, and the freezing cold water pressed against her, invading her ears, her mouth, surrounding her and pressing her down into the ground. She could not breathe; she was drowning in cold, in the darkness, and there was no one to hear her scream.

Lyra shot up so fast that she was almost sick. As it was, her head hurt so fiercely that she was forced to slump back, breathing hard as though she had been running. She couldn't seem to get enough air, to drag enough into her aching lungs. Sweet, sweet air. She felt sick and dizzy, but she found that if she lay very still it wasn't so bad. After a few minutes, she also became aware that it was warm in the room, and that there was an unaccustomed pressure on her hand. Blinking slightly so see through her hazy vision, she saw the dim outline of Erin Wolf, sleeping next to the cot with his hand on hers. She was surprised that it hadn't slipped off when she had awakened so suddenly, but she wasn't about to complain either. Instead, she rolled onto her side though it made her feel as if her chest was being squeezed horribly tightly by some giant fist. When she did so, she noticed that Erin had cleaned and covered her wounds, as well as bandaged her feet.

Goddess bless him, she thought, running her thumb along his knuckles. His hand was worn and callused, seeming to swallow her smaller one in his, and a smile flitted across her face slightly. His cheek was pressed against the straw-stuffed mattress, his long dark hair falling across his face. Slowly, tentatively, she raised her hand and gently brushed the hair away from his face. He looked so peaceful asleep... lines of worry, fear, pain, and burden seemed to be washed away. He still managed to look faintly worried, brows drawn slightly together instead of being relaxed the way they ought to be in sleep. She moved closer to him, shivering slightly as she adjusted to the heat radiating from his body. She longed to take off her armor to access her amulet so that she could at least gain the energy she needed to stand up without collapsing, but she didn't trust herself at the moment. Instead of fooling around, she pressed her forehead lightly against his. All she wanted was to be close to him. Eyes closing as a more peaceful dreamless sleep claimed her, her hand did not release his.

ooc: Awwwwwww, they're adorable. xD Hey, Knight, sorry to seem to be putting you down, but hold back on this one for the moment; I want to see Erin's reaction. xD OH! And she's always barefooted; I want to make that come into play sometime in the future!!! Very Happy

Erin awoke, and by training, he woke silently and swiftly, like a shadow. He scanned the surroundings for danger and, finding none, he lifted his head. Lyra seemed to have scooted herself over towards him and, she'd had her forehead resting against his? What? Erin should've been surprised, and on some level, he was, but not overly much. He'd come to realize that Lyra cared for him, somehow.

The warrior slowly released her hand and noticed that the elf still had her armor on. That can't be comfortable at all.... Erin reached out and gently woke Lyra up. "Hey, rise and shine. You've been out for almost a day...and i think we need to get that armor off of you."

Lyra opened her eyes sleepily and looked up at him. "Erin?"

"Well, i guess your ordeal left your mind intact. That's good...and i did what little i could to patch you up...But I think," he paused and lowered his voice so as not to disturb Dante, "You should get out of your armor. It's going to cut you up if you lay any longer in it." So, with Erin's help, Lyra slipped out of her armor and, that done, she stretched and rubbed life back into her limbs.

Erin smiles and rests a hand on her shoulder. "How are you doing Lyra? I was worried...you really drained yourself back there, didn't you?" He looked into her eyes. "You need to take care of yourself," he looked away for a moment and then looked back at her, "You'd be sorely missed." He spoke plainly, his voice low and quiet, yet not at all difficult to hear or understand.

He offered her an apple, knowing how hungry she must be, and waited for her response.

Lyra was woken by Erin gently shaking her shoulders. She was so tired... why couldn't he just go away and leave her alone? She didn't think that she could raise her head even if she tried. Reluctantly, she blinked open her eyes sleepily. Turning her head slightly, she looked up into his chestnut eyes with a faintly confused expression. "Erin?" she asked. Why on earth had she just wanted him to go? The Elf struggled to sit up, and Erin, seeing her distress, helped her up. She was breathing harder than she should be and, she felt sick and dizzy when she sat up, which finally woke her up to her depleted state.

Her movements were shaky and uncoordinated, but Erin helped her take of her armor when it became clear that she wasn't strong enough to help herself anymore. Lyra hated feeling so helpless. She knew that it only made her look weak in his eyes, knew that it only reinforced his deluded idea that she couldn't look after herself. Alright, so maybe she should have been more careful about her own needs during the past week, but she just hadn't had the time to care. When Erin's life hung in the balance, time was of the essence. When they finally got the armor off, she stretched and rubbed life back into her aching limbs. She hated armor with a passion; it was a sign of weakness in her eyes. If one couldn't stay alive without it, then they should already have died... But Erin was rarely seen without his armor, so maybe she ought to think over her opinions.

Erin smiled at her, and rested a hand on her shoulder. It felt like a dead-weight to her, but she didn't shrug him off; she loved the warmth of his touch and the unspoken reassurance his presence always gave her. "How are you doing Lyra?" he asked her anxiously, not quite looking at her. "I was worried... You really drained yourself back there, didn't you?" He seemed to gather himself and looked into her eyes. She did not look away. "You need to take care of yourself," he stated firmly, looking away for a moment before looking back at her. "You'd be sorely missed."

Lyra felt herself color slightly, but before she could react to his words, he offered her an apple. Her last meal had been in the Gypsy village, which had been the first one in a week for her. Slowly, she reached for the apple and took it from him with trembling hands. "I'm sorry," she murmured, turning the fruit over and over in her hands. "I just..." She looked up at him desperately. "Erin, I swear that I've never let myself get so far gone before. I don't know... When Shadow came to me and revealed what had happened to you, I told myself that I wouldn't rest again until you were safe." A shiver ran through her body and she broke off. "I was afraid," she confessed, looking down. "I was afraid that I'd be too late... and you dead."

She swallowed hard, and, to distract herself more than anything else, bit into the apple, senses reeling with the sudden explosion of flavor in her mouth. It'd been far too long since she'd had a good apple, and this one tasted all the better for it. Slowly, she chewed and forced herself to swallow. She'd have to take it slowly, since it had been so long since she'd had anything to eat. If she ate too fast, she would end up feeling even worse.

The Elf looked up at Erin again. "I'm sorry I left you the way I did that night; it was wrong of me. Can you forgive me?"

Erin was standing before Lyra as she spoke to him weakly.

"I'm sorry," Lyra murmured, turning the fruit over and over in her hands.

After she'd begun eating the apple, she began to speak again, "I'm sorry I left you the way I did that night; it was wrong of me. Can you forgive me?"

The warrior did not respond and his dark eyes seemed unresponsive for several seconds that seemed frighteningly long, then...he stepped forward and pulled her close. "There is nothing to forgive. You are feeling weak, your mind is tired and that is all." He held her for a moment more and then released her, "You are dreadfully weak, malnourished, sleep deprived, and you nearly killed yourself," he smiled softly at her and then continued this thought, his voice gentle, "I think you need to recuperate now. Is there anything I can do for you? Anything I can get?" He himself was not in much better state than she, but he was not going let that keep him from tending to her needs and wants just then.

"Dante? Will you go bring Jenny up? I think we should all talk..." The warrior hoped he hadn't disturbed Dante from whatever the Day-walker had been up to.

Erin's attention returned to the Elf before him, "There is nothing to forgive, and i think you proved yourself to be rather brave...foolhardy, but brave...I could use a brave companion, at my side in the coming days...but, let the matter lie, you need rest, not idle chatter. Come tell me, what can i do to help? I could go get some cool water to be sent up...Goddess knows you need it...that and some warm soup might do you some good as well...Stew might work...hearty, warm..." The warrior nodded and decided that it would be a very good idea if she ate and had something to drink. "Well?" He looked at her, a caring smile tugged at the corners of his mouth easing away the lines of tension his face usually bore an making him look altogether several years younger.

Dante's eyes opened, there is a point in the vampires mind were he can flee and recover from a tramatic experiance. From let's say being kicked out of ones own body and possesion. He stood and moved to the door. His pale hand stopping on the door knob. He seemed to change his mind about saying something, then he went out the door. After telling Jennifer, Lyra and Erin requested her presants he went down stairs. Then carring a masive platter of food, he returned. Placeing iton Lyras bedside table he sat back down on his chair. His green eyes held a mournfull expression and his silver hair seemed to glow in the dim light.

Lyra reached up and took his warm hand in hers, tugging him closer in invitation to sit beside her. Please? her eyes asked him tentatively while her mouth spoke other words that had been weighing on her conscious for over a month. "No. I was wrong, Erin. Don't try to tell me differently, because I know it's true... I wanted to return as soon as I turned my back... but I didn't want you to get any more hurt on my account." She broke off, shivering, suddenly cold. Her eyes flickered back up to him. "It's your turn now, Wolf. Get something to eat and pass out for a while. You're the one that needs it, not me." She sounded pretty far from fine, but her face was set.

Dante pushed open the door, returning from his excursion downstairs with a platter of food. Dang, the villagers had really gone all out for him and her lips twitched slightly into a small amused smile. The smell of warm food made her stomach churn, and she felt faint at the idea of eating anything other than the fist-sized apple that Erin had given her. With another shiver, she raised the apple to her lips and bit into it. It was almost too much for her, and she chewed slowly before swallowing. She was starving, but looking back at the apple she couldn't seem to summon up the will or desire to eat any more. She just wanted to curl up and drift away into the darkness that pressed into the edges of her vision, to leave it all behind in whatever realm awaited her.

"You okay, Dante?" she asked the vampire, eyes closing. She was so cold, and she didn't want to open her eyes again. Shaking herself, she forced her heavy lids open. She needed to stay awake. She didn't know why she was so sure of this all of a sudden, but in the back of her mind she knew that falling asleep was the last thing she needed to do at the moment. To wake herself up some, she took another bite of apple and sat up straighter. "You look upset," she observed, studying the vampire through slightly clouded eyes.

"You nearly died," he said quietly. His voice was quiet and soft. Dante had died, he didn't have to breath, his heart didn't beat, he couldn't kill himself and leave this strange imortal body behind. "Because of me. I promise you I'm not worth your life."
Dante could see bruises developing on Lyras pale skin, dark purpal and black ones. He picked up a bowl and looked into it, "The healer here said you should drink this. He said it has herbs that will keep you from dying in your sleap.."
Dante offered her a steaming spoonfull of the broth mixed with herbs, "slowly."

"And who's the one that I torched a few hours ago?" Lyra demanded hotly, temper flaring for a moment before receding.

She sank back and leaned against Erin's shoulder for a moment, chest heaving as she fought for air. She looked frustrated with herself, and she was. She hated feeling so weak and out of control of her own self. It wasn't just that, though... It was the fact that the others got to see her at her weakest. Livid bruises stood out of her arms where Dante had picked her up when he had been possessed, and there was a fainter bruise coming out just under her left eye from someone's fist during the brief battle. There was a small cut along her jawline, and she had other minor wounds. There wasn't really anything physical that was weighing on her; it was everything that couldn't be seen. Exhaustion and lack of food took a vicious tole on her young body.

After a few moments, Lyra regained some of her strength and sat upright, head pounding. She looked into the bowl warily, taking it gingerly from Dante. "It looks even more deadly than Erin and Shadow put together and multiplied by ten." She glanced over at Erin with a grin. "It looks like you've got competition," she teased him lightly.

Erin wrapped an arm around Lyra, her head now against his chest, and smiled. "Woah there! That's Dante, not Dracus. No need to get fiery and feisty with him. If you need to pound on someone, feel free to give me the old one-two if you'd like. You both need to recover...not duke it out in an in...although...at least then, they couldn't blame ME for wrecking the in this time..." He chuckles warmly and gently brushes the elf girl's hair from her face. "Have you had a meal recently Dante? You look like you could do with one...Being attacked by flaming salamanders seems to take a toll..." Erin laughed. He was in a good mood now. His friends were here. Lyra was safe. Dracus was gone...for now.

"What's that about Shadow and I not being deadly Lyra?" The warrior's eye's glinted mischeviously and held her close, a smile playing across his tired features. His left arm was around her, but his right was free. He held his hand in front of her, so both she and Dante could see. He closed his eyes and summoned the fire to his fingers in the shape of...himself and Shadow. It took more energy and concentration than it should've but Erin payed it little heed. "Let me tell you. There was this Manticore..." Erin waved his hand and the two fiery figures jumped from his hands to Lyra's lap, a fiery marsh appearing around the two miniatures, though the fire didn't burn the Elf girl, the flaming warrior and wolf left tiny ash foot prints on her clothes as the walked. "And it was in the marshes not for from where you rescued me." Erin's voice was filled with enthusiasm now, like an father spinning tales to a crowd of young ones on a cold winter's eve, sitting by the roaring fire, his old sword, gleaming in the firelight, hanging above the mantle. A relic of adventures come and gone. "The manticore came from above, the wind hiding his scent from Shadow." A fire miniature manticore appeared and swooped down towards fire Erin and fire Shadow, the little taking cover in the make-believe marsh the real Erin had conjured up. So he told his story, the Elf in his arms, and the Day-walker close by, hoping to give the two some much-needed downtime. He seemed to be more alive than ever before. No longer the dead, hard-hearted warrior, but a warm, feeling, thinking being. He seemed to be real...at least for now.

"Okay, so maybe I overreacted," Lyra allowed, still grinning but trying to look successfully reprimanded. She didn't quite make it, and broke out into a grin a few seconds later.

"What's that about Shadow and I not being deadly Lyra?" The warrior's eye's glinted mischievously and he wrapped his left arm tightly around her.

Heat colored her cheeks, and a smile played across the warrior's tired features. Her shivering subsided and she leaned into him, head on his chest as he summoned his fire to him and began a tale. As he spoke, she slowly began to eat the broth that Dante had brought up. Despite the outward appearance and the foul smell, it was better than she had anticipated though still not to her liking. When she had eaten as much as she could, which wasn't a lot, she set it aside and wrapped her arms around Erin, slowly drifting into sleep. His words slowly blurred in her ears, hard as she tried to stay awake. After about ten minutes, she was gone again to sleep peacefully.

ooc: Sorry! I'd post more, but I gotta run! I'll be back later Sunday! Sad

Dante relaxed lazily against the chair he was sitting in, listening to the tale of Erin, Shadow, and the Manticor. His body hurt, along with his head. After a time Dante realized Erin had stopped talking and Lyra was asleap.
"No," he said finaly said. "I don't need to eat. Unless your volenteering ." Dante made an expression while streching out his legs. "Besides, I don't like spicy foods."
He yawned showing human teeth, "we vampires are more sturdy and strong than you punny mortals. But elves have the nasy habit of sticking around like the cat no one likes or the boots that won't break."
He let a little humor show through.

"Unless your volenteering ." Dante said to the warrior.

Erin chuckled softly to Dante. "Only if you think making a meal out of me would be a good idea, Day-Walker. It's not." It was said jokingly, and intended as such, of course, but with it came an unspoken reminder that Erin Wolf, though only human, had the medallion around his neck for a week or so, and had refused to let his mind be overthrown, even then, while Dante's mind had ensnared by the cursed item within a relatively short time. That mental toughness that could resist such torment for days on end was what really made Erin Wolf so dangerous. He refused to give up. Life was either "Live free" or "die fighting"...And Wolf had been going down fighting.

Erin looked about. The room seemed safe enough. Lyra was asleep again, Goddess knew she needed it, but Erin refused to let the "inn incident" repeat itself. He'd stay awake and watch over his friends properly this time.

"Rest well Lyra Clear-Waters. This time, I shall not let any harm come to you. I swear that upon my sword." He drew her close and rested a hand upon his sword. "Let them come. If they will. I have yet to be bested by a mere mortal and even this weak, i do not intend to lose."

Dante rolled his eyes at the proclomation. The romance brewing between Erin and Lyra was... well... Dante didn't have a word for it. But, he didn't complain.
"Dimond not glass," he said softly remembering the reminder he had givin Erin. "Things have changed scince then."
He looked at Erin, "Im hoping pointing weapons at me won't become a tradition for you, that and setting me on fire."

Dante looked at Erin, "I'm hoping pointing weapons at me won't become a tradition for you, that and setting me on fire."

Erin smiled sadly. "Don't ever make me have to and you won't have anything to worry about friend. And as to setting people on fire...our fire-setter's sound asleep," Erin indicated the elf girl, "I tend to just run my opponents through with my sword...it's more efficient and you know they are dead...burning enemies can still stumble after you and still cause you problems..." Erin nodded once, as though speaking from experience.

OOC: The next morning.

Erin stirred. He'd not slept, but he'd gone into a sort of passive state. His senses still alert for danger, but his mind had slowed to a near stand-still. The warrior was unsure whether or not to wake the Lyra. She'd been sleeping for a while, and she DID need it, but she need to eat too. He sat up and looked down at her as she lay peacefully against him."Hey Lyra?" Erin gently shook her shoulder, "Would you like to get some breakfast with me?" Erin made the offer, though he didn't expect her to take him up on it. "Or if not, i can bring some up to you..." His voice was very soft, for he didn't want to disturb Dante. The Day-walker didnt eat like humans or elves. He could afford to rest longer. But Erin needed food. And Lyra likely did too.

"How'd you sleep?" Erin asked her softly, trying to see if she'd come awake yet.

Lyra's eyes snapped open the instant Erin shook her. Instantly, her whole body tensed and she struggled to sit up, still groggy, before realizing that it was only Erin and everything was alright. She relaxed, senses quickly adjusting from sleeping to wakefulness. Erin's face came into focus, and with it the awareness that she was still leaning into his warm body. In reality, she was all but on top of him. That was fine by her, and Erin hadn't pushed her away either during the night, so that was something. Had he been awake all night? He was still sitting up and when he spoke his voice sounded tired.

"Would you like to get some breakfast with me? Or if not, I can bring some up to you..." His voice was quiet so as not to disturb Dante and Jenny, and he didn't sound like he expected her to agree, which might have been why he changed the subject almost as soon as the words were out of his mouth. "How'd you sleep?" His voice was tentative this time, uncertain.

The Elf girl sat up slightly, wanting to stay there forever with him but knowing that that was impossible. He was likely starving and she had a sudden desire to finish her apple. "I'm awake," she replied, voice rasping slightly like a cat's when she spoke. She swallowed and yawned, left hand coming up to cover her mouth. Getting unsteadily to her feet, she offered him her hand. "I think I'll risk breakfast with you," she said, sounding faintly amused. "I've faced worse dangers." Her tone made it clear that she was teasing him. "Did you get any sleep last night, Wolf?" she asked, voice suddenly serious as she looked him up and down. "You sound beat."

Erin took Lyra's hand in his; his grip gentle but ever ready to tighten and help her steady herself if she stumbled. "Aye, around me, anything can be a risk, eh?" He was joking, but he felt some truth in his own words. He WAS a risky person to be around. The warrior blinked consider her question about him getting any sleep. "I did not "sleep" per se...I kept watch last night. However," he smiled at her concern, "There are ways of resting without having to be asleep...There is no need to worry. I am well." Erin and Lyra exited the room together, and the warrior gently eased the oak door to the room shut with a soft CLICK. "You are looking better than before," He seemed to asses her health and overall strength in a sweeping glance. "Your bruises are fading,: the warrior noted that the elf seemed to heal quickly...much faster than he, but then, she WAS an elf...Then, Erin glanced away, "You seemed to have slept well last night..." They continued to walk til they reached the stairs to had down to the lower level of the inn. "Watch your step," The warrior warned her gently.

Lyra followed him out of their room, looking back at the sleeping forms of Dante and Jenny behind them for a brief instant before Erin closed the door with a soft click. Her left ear twitched slightly, angling towards the quiet sound as if expecting to hear more. When only the faint sounds of birdsong reached her, she turned her attention back towards Erin as they made their way down the narrow passageway. Their footsteps were muffled by the thin layer of dust that covered the floorboards. Darkness pressed around them, and claustrophobia sent her heart pounding a frantic tattoo against her chest. It was so dark, and the walls seemed to be pressing in on her, and suddenly it seemed almost hard to breathe. Panic flashed across her mind before she forced it back. Unconsciously, her fingers squeezed Erin's tightly and she moved closer to him, eyes huge in the blackness that threatened to engulf her.

It was not, in reality, as black as night or as horrible as her mind made it out to be. Gray light hung in the air, allowing the two Legacies to see. It was her terror of being trapped between the narrow confines of the four walls, rather, that made the corridor seem so frightening to the Elf.

Erin was speaking, and his words broke through her mental barriers, seeming to come from her as if from a great distance. With an effort, she jerked her mind, trying to drag herself back into reality. She had to hold onto what was real and separate it from the nightmare that her imagination built off of it.
"You are looking better than before," he was saying. It was a statement, an observation that didn't need a response. However, it was gave her enough to hold onto, and enough to rescue her drowning mind. "Your bruises are fading," he continued, still observing. She felt his eyes on her, and cursed herself for being a coward. Why was it that he always had to see her at her weakest? Maybe he would trust her if he saw her strong; maybe he would realize that she wasn't totally dependent on him for survival. After a moment, she felt his gaze leave her and travel to the beginning of the worn spiraling staircase. "You seemed to have slept well last night..." he said, voice trailing off towards the end. He sounded unsure as to whether or not she would want to respond to that, and paused for a few seconds before going on. "Watch your step." His voice was gentle, but carried a warning with it all the same.

"No worries," Lyra replied quietly, not wanting to raise her voice and wake anyone. The Elf felt wide awake for some reason, and got the feeling that it had to do with the amulet. She could feel it pressed against her skin under her shirt, heat pulsing steadily through her... Or maybe that was just the pressure of his fingers around hers, or the memory of sleeping against him last night. Whatever the case, she quickly lead the way down the stairs, still holding onto him. She wanted to get back into he open, or at least out of the tiny staircase and away from the narrow hallway.
